IP - Dynamic IP Addresses using DHCP

As of Analog and Digital Tenor Software Release P4-1-9, it is possible to have the Tenor receive a Dynamic IP address from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Server. This is configurable from the console port at boot up, or using Telnet.

There are a few "caveats" (warnings) about using DHCP on the Tenor:

Booting up using the Console Port

NETWORK INTERFACE PARAMETERS:

HARDWARE PARAMETERS:

Serial channels will use a baud rate of 38400

After board is reset, start-up code will wait 3 seconds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

To change any of this, press the <Enter> key within 3 seconds

(M)odify any of this or (C)ontinue? [M] m <type "m" here>

For each of the following questions, you can press <Return> to select the value shown in braces, or you can enter a new value.

NETWORK INTERFACE PARAMETERS:

Do you want a LAN interface? [Y] y <type "y" here>

Do you want to obtain an IP address automatically? [N] y <type "y" here>

Hostname? [nj_.3] <optional configuration>

Upon DHCP Configuration (or next boot up)

NETWORK INTERFACE PARAMETERS:

LAN IP address will be obtained from DHCP server

Host name is nj_.3

HARDWARE PARAMETERS:

DHCP start

etc.

At this point, you will either need to "power cycle" the Tenor, interrupt its boot up & assign it a Static IP Address, or wait until the DHCP Server finds this Tenor & assigns it an IP address.

Under the Unit Prompt of the CLI

config unit 1# print

Unit: 1

IP Address = 255.255.255.255 <means that this Tenor is a DHCP Client>

External IP Address = 0.0.0.0

Name = nj_.3

Online = 1

Relay ResetTime = 240

Relay Reset Number = 2

You can issue a Static IP Address from here, using the typical "ip" command from the Unit prompt. After submitting the change, the next time the Tenor is reset, it will have this new Static IP address.
