Serial Port Connection

To connect to the Tenor's serial port, you will need to have a PC located relatively close to the Tenor. The physical connection is done by connecting one end of the supplied serial cable to the Tenor's serial port and the other end of this cable to a serial (com) port on your PC.

When the Tenor is first shipped to you, you can only connect to the unit using this method as there is no IP information set and you must set this first before connecting the Tenor to your IP network. See Section III: Initial Installation for further details.

Once the cable is connected and the Tenor is powered on, you must open a HyperTerminal session (or other terminal emulation program) as follows.

  1. Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal. This will open the HyperTerminal Window.

  2. Double-click on the Hypertrm icon to start this program.

  3. Enter a name for this connection in the Name field like Tenor and click OK.

  4. In the Connect Using drop down field, click on the down arrow on the right of this field and select the Direct to Com1 option and click on OK. If you are connecting using a different com port on your PC then select the correct com port from this list.

  5. Set the Bit per second to 38400 by clicking on the down arrow to the right of this field and selecting 38400.

  6. Set the Data bits to 8.

  7. Set the Parity to None.

  8. Set the Stop bits to 1.

  9. Set the Flow control to None by clicking on the down arrow to the right of this field and selecting None.

  10. Click OK to display the terminal window.

  11. Press <Enter> once and the Quintum> Password: prompt is displayed.
