Authentication vs. Authorization - Authentication refers to the system verifying that User/Caller has entered a valid card/account number, and that there are sufficient funds. Authorization means that the Caller/User is now allowed to use network resources for a limited period of time.
Call Leg - From the Gateway's point of view, every established call has two legs: an Incoming Leg and an Outgoing Leg. The Incoming Leg is answered by the Gateway and is also known as the Answered Leg. The Outgoing Leg is originated by the Gateway and is also known as the Originated Leg.
RADIUS Statistics - The following rules apply with regard to what is counted as an attempt and response between the Gateway and the RADIUS server.
When an Authentication request is sent to the RADIUS server, it is counted as an attempt. If a response is received it is either an accept or a reject, and if not then it is counted as a timeout.
Authentication Attempts = Authentication Responses + Authentication Timeouts
Authentication Responses = Authentication Accepts + Authentication Rejects
In the case of Accounting, there is either a response or a timeout.
Accounting Attempts = Accounting Responses + Accounting Timeouts
